INTRODUCING LITKIT

REDACTIONS

Minimize Risk and Protect Your Clients' Information

Law firms currently lack an efficient way to deal with redactions to briefs.  Because of last-minute edits, the redactions often may not be marked and applied until right before filing, and sometimes minutes before the deadlines.  This can lead to errors and formatting mistakes.  Other times, attorneys' lack of technical knowledge may lead to embarrassing redaction failures, and leaving their clients' sensitive information exposed to the public.

LitKit solves this by allowing the marking and editing of redactions directly in Microsoft Word. When the brief is final and ready to file, a simple click will produce three different versions of the final PDF: an unredacted version with the attorney’s choice of confidentiality designation; a highlighted version showing the text to be redacted, to be used with motions to seal; and a redacted version with blacked-out text.

CITATIONS

Avoid Last-Minute Errors and Keep Track of Your Work

Numbering exhibits and ensuring that the format of citations is correct is often a last-minute exercise since edits to briefs could affect the order of the exhibits.  Numbering and renumbering exhibits and updating cover pages can be a time-consuming exercise when dealing with a large number of exhibits, and can lead to citation errors, broken references, and missed deadlines.  Clients can pay hundreds of dollars for this last-minute shuffle, and associates often find themselves distracted from substantive issues with the briefs trying to finalize this process.

LitKit solves this by using a special referencing process which allows users to insert exhibit, record, and legal citations, keep track of the citations and their format, and renumber exhibits automatically as portions of the brief are moved around or deleted.  Legal and record citations will automatically be updated to preserve the long-cite, short-cite, and id. formatting, making cite checking and finalizing a brief so much easier. LitKit can also produce an exhibit index in one click.

DRAFT DISCOVERY RESPONSE AND ANSWERS TO COMPLAINTS

Cut Down Drafting Time While Ensuring Consistency

Drafting discovery responses and answers is often a grueling process of copy-pasting similar language while also making sure the standard objection or response used is linked to the correct paragraph or discovery request.

LitKit helps litigators add their customized response or objection language through a single click, saving hours and streamlining the drafting process.  By using LitKit, litigators can ensure consistency within their drafts and accuracy of the cross-references.

FORMATTING LEGAL DOCUMENTS

Address Frequently Encountered Formatting Issues with One Click

Drafting legal documents often involved applying firm or partner preferences and fixing nits.  Oxford commas or the amount of spaces between sentences are highly debated topics in law.

LitKit helps its users apply such preferences with one click:  it can switch between one or two spaces between sentences while avoiding adding two spaces within your citations, italicize or un-italicize Latin phrases, add hard spaces throughout the document where appropriate, and even insert or remove the Oxford comma.  LitKit even simplifies drafting by removing the dreaded line numbering and formatting from transcript text when copied into a Word document and can transform your hyphens into dashes when used to denote ranges.
